Ugandan activist Agather Atuhaire and Kenyan activist Boniface Mwangi were detained in Tanzania and later released following demands from the Kenyan government and public outcry. Both activists were reportedly abandoned at border points after their release, with Mwangi alleging he was tortured during his detention. The incidents have raised concerns about the treatment of activists and cross-border human rights violations in East Africa. The Ugandan Agora Centre for Research confirmed Atuhaire's release, while Kenyan officials facilitated Mwangi's return and medical care. The situation highlights ongoing risks faced by activists in the region and the role of diplomatic intervention.
